Description:This winter scene shows numbers 38 to 41 Eastgate Street, looking south.

On the extreme left there is a part view of James & Moore Ltd.'s Turf Accountant's premises. Next door is number 38, which was then said to be over 300 years old; it had been renovated and opened as the 'Wool Parlour' in 1963. It is currently (2025) occupied by a chiropodist's/podiatrist's practice.

In the centre the building with dormer windows is numbers 39 and 40 which are Grade II Listed, dating from the 19th century. Number 39 is still (2025) a barber's shop and number 40 later became as Fungs Chinese take-away. The adjacent white building is number 41a and at the time of this photograph housed Staffordshire County Council's Weights and Measures Department, the Planning and Development Department and the Civil Defence Officer. It has a date of 1880 on the front.
