Description:A charming postcard photograph of a smartly dressed little boy wearing a cap amongst a brood of chickens. Written on the reverse in two different hands is “Haughton Farm" and "Booden House Farm, Haughton".

The postcard was franked in Stafford in 1911 written by E.P. (believed to be Ethel Louisa Pothan, nee Walker) and addressed to Miss Hill, The Vicarage, Hilderstone who is referred to as 'Aunty'. She mentions the "small boy" but does not name him or the location.

Ethel was born in Haughton in 1882, and she married George William Pothan in 1905 in Haughton. In 1911 they were living in Church Eaton. Her mother was Mary Elizabeth Walker (nee Hill). Mary married Edward John Walker in 1881 at Gailey Church.

Mary had a sister called Ann Hill who, in the 1911 census, was a servant working at the vicarage in Hilderstone. Mary is the Miss Hill referred to as Aunty (Ann is the aunt of Ethel). Ethel had a son called Leonard George Pothan. Leonard was born on 29th October 1908 and would have been aged between two and three years old when the photograph was taken and so is believed to be the child featured in the postcard.
