Date:1872 - 1880 (c.)

Description:Pictured before the current frontage was added in the early 20th century, this photograph, taken when John Cope was the licensee, must date from the mid 1870s. His father, George, is listed as the licensee in an 1870 trades directory and by 1880 John was no longer the licensee.

A 1949 Rugeley Times article notes that there were five public houses in Upper Brook street alone in 1872 when George Cope is identified as holding The Crown licence.
