Description:The Bowler Hat public house was constructed between 1832 and 1878. It had a rectangular plan, one room wide by two rooms deep. The plain tiled roof had no chimney.

This photograph shows the north facing front of the building which had been rendered. The west side of the building overlooks a side road. The rear of the building is completely obscured by a modern two storey extension, also to the rear there is a yard and a cobbled alley. Moorland Road was formerly known as Knowle Street in around 1823, and previously on a map of Burslem from 1812, it was named Hamel Lane.

Around 1999, The Bowler Hat became known as ‘Ye Olde Smithy’. It closed in 2016 and permanently closed in 2020.
