Date:1801

Description:A coloured plan and elevations signed by Brookes the Mayor of Stafford, William Dudley, carpenter and joiner, and William Smith, stonemason 1801. It is also annotated as to erection in 1801, and removal and re-erection in 1813. The 1801 building was taken down and re-erected at a nearby site on Gaol Square.

The Free Grammar School of King Edward VI was established in 1550 using St. Bertelin's Chapel as a schoolroom. Due to the poor state of repair of the schoolroom the school was rebuilt on the corner of Gaol Square and North Walls in 1813. The school finally moved to new premises on Newport Road in 1862.
