Description:A group of boys fishing near Lime Kiln Lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal, near to Stone Railway Station.
In the distance is a bottle kiln of Taylor and Tunnicliff electrical insulator manufacturers who had recently expanded from Hanley. The field behind the boys belonged to the Railway company and was grazed by four shire horses who both shunted the railway trucks and delivered the goods sent to Stone by rail.
The lime kilns which gave the lock its name had been demolished by the time this photograph was taken.
