Description:Hedge laying creates a natural, living barrier, which can last for 15 - 50 years if trimmed on a yearly basis.

Hedges are laid between September and March. There are many different styles of hedge laying, depending on the region, hedge size and species, and purpose of the hedge. However, the basic cut, bend, stake and secure processes remain the same.

Mr Fowler is pictured here knocking posts in to the ground, which hold the cut and laid branches. Mr Fowler worked on the Hazard estate and was a renowned hedge layer, winning many prizes.
