Date:1890 - 1910 (c.)

Description:Mr Timmis with his prize winning swedes. The sign reads 'Leighton's Rate Payer / Agent Henry Garlick'.

Swedes were harvested in November before the onset of the severe winter weather. Harvesting was quicker and the crops stored better if they were gathered under milder conditions.
