Description:Tinted postcard of Siemen's engineering works from the cricket ground at The Hough, near Lichfield Road; on the right is the cricket pavilion (now replaced by a purpose-built telephone exchange) and to the left is part of the main office block and part of the factory.
The Hough Cricket Ground was formerly the home of Stafford Cricket Club and staged many Staffordshire minor county matches.
Siemen's Social and Athletics Association was based in rooms in Hough House. Land adjoining the works and money to buy equipment was provided by the company.
In August 1906 the first Stafford Sports Day was organised, which helped raise funds to take over more of Hough House. By 1908 the association had a membership of 1,000 and a new home in Tipping Street.
Activities included football, cricket, tennis, bowling, quoits, boxing, athletics, amateur dramatics, shooting, horticulture, and a literary and debating society.
