Description:A tower was built at each corner of the gaol in the mid-nineteenth century to provide living accommodation for prison warders, and would have afforded some supervision over the site. When the Crescent Block was enlarged in 1865, one of the towers was demolished and rebuilt next to the one on Crooked Bridge Road.
The towers were demolished in 1953 when they were found to be unsafe.
