Description:Two crate-makers at work in Brocksford Street, off King Street, Fenton in 1949. The photograph was taken for an exhibition held at the Hanley Museum in Pall Mall. The exhibition was entitled 'Changing Face of the Potteries'. Crate making and tub thumping were important trades in the pottery industry right up until the 1970’s. All pottery ware was transported in crates and barrels made by skilled craftsmen.
