Description:This claustrophobic scene was located somewhere in the backstreets of Hanley in the early part of last century. Notice the high wall opposite the houses and the brick pavement and dirt track road.
The view out of the 'best room' window was not very inspiring, but people made the best of their situation; washing was put out on the line and the boy on the left has a white Dalton collar. One wonders how long it would have stayed white in the Potteries before the Clean Air Act!
