Description:This photograph shows a man placing a laurel wreath on the Johnson memorial. This event is held on the nearest Monday to Johnson's birthday, on 18th Septemer, every year and commemorates Johnson's penance in Uttoxeter. Johnson's father, Michael Johnson, had a book stall in Uttoxeter and once asked his son to go to the market for him as he was unwell. Johnson refused, but later in his life regretted this, travelled to Uttoxeter, and stood on the spot where his father had his stall, as a penance. The memorial on the Conduit is supposed to be on that spot.
