Description:Lichfield Home Guard pictured outside King Edward VI School in Lichfield,

The man sitting 4th from the left on the front row (with the moustache) is Edward Alfred Geoffrey 'EAG' Marlar, who was also the headmaster of King Edward VI School. Edward was a Major in the Lichfield Home Guard in 1944 when he was recommended for an MBE, which he later received. In his recommendation he is described in the following way: 'His hard work, sound judgement and willingness to do just that bit more is an example to all ranks in his company.' He was one of the very few officers in the home guard to be awarded a military MBE.
