Description:Hen Cloud and The Roaches are both rocky formations of Millstone Grit, to the north-east of Leekfrith. Hen Cloud, meaning 'steep rock' in Old English stands at 1,350 feet high (410 metres).
In the 1890s Sir Philip Brocklehurst, who already owned The Roaches and a large surrounding estate acquired Hen Cloud. He made the area increasingly popular with visitors by making footpaths and building bridges over the area's many streams. The Brocklehursts' Swythamley estate was broken up in 1977 and a large part of the area was bought by the Peak park joint planning board.
