Description:View of the start of the High Street, looking south from Albert Square. No.2 High Street, on the right of the picture was built in the early 1860s in response to the need to accommodate the growing workforce of miners and ironworkers employed by Robert Heath at his developing Biddulph Valley Coal and Ironworks. The monument was erected in 1922 in memory of the men from Biddulph who were killed in the 1914/18 War. It later also became the town's memorial for WWII.
