Description:The shop is thought to have been established in 1759 by William Hambleton. Its stone sign, obscured by the Post Office sign reads, "W.H. Hambleton, Mercer and Grocer, Dealer in Coffee, Tea, Tobacco and Snuff". Over the years the shop was owned by a number of different people before it closed in 2001.
Miss Gladys Sutton worked at the Post Office between 1914-1925. Her hours were 8am-8pm, and her wage was 1/6d per week (about 18 pence).
