Description:The Conservatory was completed c1824-5, although building work is known to have begun prior to 1818. It is one of the largest structures on the Alton Towers estate, after the house. Originally the architect was a Mr Allason, but his drawing of the structure held in the Alton Towers archive looks nothing like the finished design. Contemporary sources believe that Robert Abraham was the later architect. The conservatory roof is made up of seven decorative cast-iron glazed domes, with the central one being larger than the rest and with the earl of Shrewsbury's coronet as its finial.
