Description:Mrs Hambleton was born Sarah Hall on June 1st 1810 at a farm called High Street, about one and a half miles from Cheadle. She was one of eight children, having four brothers and three sisters. The family attended Kingsley Church. The Halls later moved to Whiston and Sarah became a Methodist. She went on to marry John Hambleton, and they moved to Cheddleton. They were staunch Methodists and heavily involved in local religious life, particularly the Sunday School. Mr Hambleton gave the money and land for the (old) Methodist Chapel. He was a local preacher and circuit steward. Mrs Hambleton died on January 22nd 1891 aged 80, and is buried at Cheddleton.
