Description:The name Werrington is Anglo-Saxon in origin and means 'home of the Werrings' (followers of a chief called Werra or Wherra). The village lies on the edge of Wetley Moor, and was formerly a tiny hamlet in Weston Coyney and Hulme manor.
The windmill was supposedly built c1730. Long after is ceased functioning as a mill it was used as the headquarters of Werrington Home Guard during World War II, and in 1952 was taken over by the Midlands Electricity Board.
