Description:The building of St. Thomas' began in 1937, and was completed the following year. It was opened by the Very Reverend Bernard Griffin, Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham, who later became Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster and head of the Catholic Church in England.
The church was not consecrated until 1956. It was the first purpose built Roman Catholic Church in Upper Tean. Before this time services were held in an old school conducted by a visiting priest from nearby Cresswell.
St. Thomas' Road was formerly Back Lane.
