Description:The shop building stands on what used to be the main road through the village. There have been several interesting archaeological digs in the area, with the remains of a mammoth being found in 1864, and a bronze age axe in the 1960s. The village had a railway line to Leekbrook, transporting passengers and limestone from 1905. In 1935 the line closed to passengers, but continued to be used for limestone. The old railway bridge still survives, and spans the road to Caldon Low.
