The airfield at Bobbington was constructed in 1940-41 for the use of the Royal Air Force and was initially named RAF Bobbington but was soon renamed RAF Halfpenny Green in September 1943. It was mothballed in November 1945 but flying resumed by No.2 Air Signallers School on 5 May 1952, disbanding in September 1953. It remained disused before civil aviation use began in 1961 and it was known as Halfpenny Green Airport or Bobbington Airport. It is now named Wolverhampton Airport.
