Description:Sisters Emily Mary Foster, aged 15, and Gertrude Fanny Foster, aged 17, of Brund Farm, Cheddleton. The girls are possibly dressed for a Confirmation ceremony in this studio portrait.

The Foster family had previously lived at Fulford. Following the death of their father, their mother, Fanny, married John Sidney Leese of Cheddleton. Tragically, they died by drowning in Deep Hay Pool, Wall Grange, together with their brother, John Thomas Foster, aged 11. Following an aeroplane flying overhead, they eventually turned back for home by a direct route passing the pool where John spotted a fish on the bank of the deep, steep-sided pool. In trying to get at it with a stick, he fell in. His sisters followed him in attempting to save him.
