This W. Stanier 8F 2-8-0 locomotive was built in Glasgow and saw service from June 1942, initially as LMS 8271, renumbered in January 1949 as BR 48271, withdrawn and condemned in August 1967 and scrapped in May 1968.
The locomotive depot which was a short distance south of Burton-upon-Trent Railway Station closed in 1968 and in later years a large part of this area was redeveloped as a retail and business park.
