Description:Steam locomotive 48700 is pictured by the Burton-upon-Trent locomotive depot.

This W. Stanier 8F 2-8-0 locomotive was built in Brighton and saw service from May 1944, initially as LMS 8700, renumbered in January 1949 as BR 48700, withdrawn in March 1968 and scrapped in May 1968.

The locomotive depot which was a short distance south of Burton-upon-Trent Railway Station closed in 1968 and in later years a large part of this area was redeveloped as a retail and business park.
