Description:The Burton and Ashby Light Railway was a tramway system operating in three counties from Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire to Swadlincote in Derbyshire and then to Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, between 1906 and 1927.
Pictured at the Midland Road depot in Swadlincote is Car number 13 which was one of the open top tramcars provided by the Brush Electric Company of Loughborough. The tramway opened on 2 July 1906 and was operated by the Midland Railway, until it was taken over by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1923. The system used the tracks of the Burton-upon-Trent Corporation Tramways from a terminus by the Town Hall in Wellington Street, through Station Street, Borough Road and Guild Street before using its own infrastructure through Swadlincote to Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The system closed on 13 February 1927.
