Description:A general view of Friars Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Some of these houses were subject to demolition, due to slum clearance provisions under the Housing Act, 1930. Cars can be seen in the street. The bunting may be for the accession of George VI in 1936.

In the foreground is a sign for a taxi rank and Blackfriars Garage, advertising Essoline petrol
