Date:1895 - 1905 (c.)

Description:In the background of the photograph is Chapman’s Hotel which stood on Westborough close to Scarborough Railway Station.

On the extreme left a sign points to the excursion platform at the station. In the centre the horse drawn open-topped charabanc is sometimes referred to as a wagonette, which may be waiting to take visitors on a sight-seeing excursion around Scarborough.

In later years the hotel was demolished during redevelopment of the area and replaced by shops and a cinema currently (2024) known as the Stephan Joseph Theatre.
