Description:Superseding an earlier hall, Handsacre Hall building probably largely dated to the 15th century. Falling into dis-prepair in the 16th century, it was renovated during the 17th century.

Originally owned by the de Handsacre family, title passed to Lady Robert Bertie and then Sir George Chetwynd of Brocton. Later, ownership passed to Francis Villiers Forster of Longdon Grange but by the mid-19th century it was farmed by the widowed Mrs Mary Harvey who was succeeded by her widowed daughter, Fanny Boycott together with her sister Sarah Harvey. They appear to have left the Hall prior to 1921 when stockman Albert Price and his wife Ethel were residents.

In 1963 the Hall was purchased by Robert Boston of nearby Brereton Cross Farm. By 1973 the building was in a ruinous state and it was demolished. All that remains is the moat visible off Shropshire Brook Road near its junction with Lichfield Road.

This picture is from an album of photographs taken by Thomas Harvey Boycott (1876-1949) who lived with his widowed mother, Fanny Maria, whose family had lived at Handsacre Hall as farmers, together with his unmarried aunt, Sarah Elizabeth Harvey. Harvey was a Clerk at Lichfield District Probate Court and a skilled amateur photographer. The album was a parting gift from Harvey and his mother to the Rev. R.E. Grice-Hutchinson (1885-1976) who was Curate of Armitage with Pipe Ridware 1909-1913.
