Description:A portrait of Maurice Procter, taken around 1947 as a Lieutenant in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was conscripted in December 1944 into the regular Army after being a Sergeant in the Newcastle-under-Lyme Air Training Corps. After basic training he was posted to "A Wing" 8th Battalion of The Sherwood Foresters where it is believed he trained to be a glider pilot. He was then selected for Officer Cadet Training, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant, then being promoted to full Lieutenant in October 1946. Due to injuries sustained in his military service, he was discharged in 1948. He went on to become Managing Director of Blythe Colours in Cresswell.

At the time this photograph was he was living at 34, Vale Street, Silverdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
