Description:This photograph is titled 'Old Burton, Bass's Crossing, High Street (before the Railway)'. The gate pillars on both sides of High Street make this spot easy to locate today. The three-storey buildings on both sides of the road still stand (in 2024). The buildings on the right with the door canopies are numbers 61 and 62 High Street. After this photograph was taken there were railway tracks across the road between the brewery sites, since removed.

The Bass brewery cart has two large wheels and a drop down tailgate at the rear. Another cart can be seen behind the pair of horses waiting for clear passage.

Photograph from ‘Boots Fine Art Views of Burton’, published by Boots Limited in the 1890s.
