Newcastle Carnival became an annual event after the octocentenary carnival celebrations of 1973. The carnival was always held on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May and included a procession through the town, charity stalls, fun fair, and many live music performances. The carnivals stopped taking place in around 2006.
