Description:A general view of Allsopp & Sons, Ltd. brewery from the railway.

Allsopp’s brewery was founded in 1807 when Samuel Allsopp purchased Wilson’s brewery business. In 1859 a new brewery was built on Station Street, Burton-upon-Trent, close to the railway station, and a new office block followed in 1864. The innovative introduction of lager brewing plant in the late 1890s proved too much of a stretch for the company’s finances and Allsopp & Sons went into receivership in 1911. The lager plant was transferred to Alloa in Scotland in 1921 and was later used to brew Skol lager. Samuel Allsopp & Sons merged with Ind Coope Ltd in 1935 and the company was renamed Ind Coope and Allsopp Ltd. The Allsopp name was dropped in 1959 and Ind Coope was eventually incorporated into Allied Breweries in 1971.
