Description:A group of Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and other children pictured on Pall Mall, Hanley raising funds for the Purple Cross service which existed to care for the welfare of the horses on the battlefield. The man wearing a bowler hat is John Davies, who happened to be passing by when the photograph was being taken, but had nothing to do with the event.
Behind the North Staffordshire Railway horse-drawn floats signs for the Sun Insurance Offices can be seen in the windows of the white building, which is now (2023) Pall Mall Dental surgery at number 10, Pall Mall.
On 13 March 1915 Madame Marie Reymond of 8, Pall Mall, a well-known Danish-born music teacher and pianist in the area, organised a fundraising event on behalf of the Purple Cross Service. Two horses toured the streets of the Potteries collecting money. 8, Pall Mall is the house to the right so the likelihood is that this photograph was taken at that event.
