Description:The boathouse was designed by Leek architect William Larner Sugden for the Davenport family, silk manufacturers of nearby Leek, and built in 1893. It has access via jetty over the water. The stone statue of 'The Lady of the Lake’ can be seen in the niche at the base of the chimney stack. The building’s name may be inspired by the Arthurian legend where she presents King Arthur with a replacement for Excalibur, or by Sir Walter Scott's novel of that name.
