Description:This Mark 1 Spitfire from R.A.F. Bicester was on display outside the Brampton Museum (then the Borough Museum and Art Gallery) in Newcastle-under-Lyme to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force. It was just one of many displays across the country. This Spitfire was a survivor of 50 operational sorties and of particular interest locally as Reginald Mitchell, the designer, was born in Butt Lane, near Kidsgrove.

It was eventually removed for fear of vandalism and as funding was not available to provide 24 hour security.
