Description:A postcard scene looking west towards Rudyard village. On the lower left there is a part view of the former Rudyard Railway Station and in the distance on the extreme right Hotel Rudyard can be seen, showing it after the extensive alterations of 1906 and 1907, when an extra storey had been added to the wing on the left of the building.

The North Staffordshire Railway's (NSR) Churnet Valley line once connected Macclesfield with Leek and Uttoxeter. NSR became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and later British Railways. Passenger services were withdrawn around 1960, freight services continued until 1964 and then the track was lifted.

There is still a station on the site of the former Rudyard station. Rudyard Lake Steam Railway operates on the former track bed of the Churnet Valley line. This small narrow gauge railway runs along the side of Rudyard Lake for 2.4km. It is an ideal way of viewing the stunning scenery and there is also a footpath alongside the narrow gauge railway.

Postcard published by the Scottish photographer William Sandeman who was based in Rudyard from around 1896 until the 1930s.
