Description:This postcard view shows the Windmill Inn close to Werrington windmill which is thought to have been built around 1730. The landlord at the time of this photograph was Frederick Dale.
The inn began life as the home of the resident miller at the windmill. In 1851 a Mr Greatbach was listed in White's Directory as being both miller and innkeeper. The miller in 1880 was William Forister, and he took over the public house and turned it into one of the most popular hostelries in the area. In later years the inn was demolished and a new Windmill Inn was built nearby on the junction of Johnstone Avenue and Ash Bank Road.
