Description:An engraving from the Illustrated London News, 4 December 1847. Both the Birmingham to Derby and the Trent Valley lines went through Tamworth Station. The original station was opened on 12 August 1839 by the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway and was demolished in 1961. A new station designed by the architects for the London Midland Region of British Railways, Maurice Wheeler, E.G. Girdlestone and J.B. Sanders was opened in 1962 at the same time that the line was electrified.
