Description:The Spread Eagle Inn in Rolleston-on-Dove, an image from the Rolleston Hall Estate Sale Catalogue, October 1919. At the time the landlord was Arthur P. Prince. The building is largely mid-19th century but has a 17th century core. In the background can be seen the spire of St. Mary's Church.
Sir Oswald Mosley, 5th Baronet (1873-1928) had inherited the estate in 1915 on the death of his father, the 4th Baronet (1848-1915), but took the decision to sell it after the First World War. Much of the estate was sold in 1919 and 1920, but the Hall itself was not sold until 1923-24.
