Description:A postcard view of St. Mary's Church taken from the grounds of Tutbury Castle. Tutbury church originally formed part of a priory founded by Hugh de Ferrers in the 1080s. The church has a wonderful Norman west front built in about 1160-70. The nave piers and south door are also 12th century. The north aisle was added in 1820-22 by J.H. Bennett and the chancel and sanctuary by G.E. Street in 1866. There are people on the bank in front of the picket fence.
