Description:The 'White House' was owned by Alboin Birks, the ceramics artist. Later it became the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Madge and Tom Tivey. Tom Tivey served in Mesopotamia during World War One where he contracted malaria and was injured by a bullet to the chest which damaged his lung. After the war he became a writer and lecturer for the Staffordshire College of Building. Over the course of his service he served with the 5th North Staffordshire Regiment, the Leicester and the Northumberland Fusiliers and eventually became Platoon Sergeant.
