Description:Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland founded Hanchurch Holiday Home for poor children from the Potteries in 1898. A convalescent home for patients of the Potteries and Newcastle Cripples’ Guild was built adjoining the holiday home in 1911. In 1929 the City of Stoke-on-Trent took over management and it became the Hanchurch Residential Open Air School for delicate children. The buildings were demolished in 1991 and the Hanchurch Christian Centre was built on the same site in a similar style by the United Christian Broadcasters.
