Description:This postcard scene shows a part view of the former quarry at Broad Hill, near Gnosall.

In the background of the picture a sandstone outcrop can be seen behind the derelict cottage. This is a Triassic sandstone known as the Sherwood Sandstone Group, also known as Keuper or Bromsgrove sandstone, which is suitable for building purposes. Stone from Broad Hill, Cowley and the Hollies was used in the building of Gnosall Church, although all the carved stonework is of a similar type of sandstone brought from Grinshill quarry in Shropshire.

This postcard was written on 22 July 1907. It was franked in Stafford on the same day at 9.30pm and sent to an address in Northfield, Birmingham.
