Description:A postcard view of the Memorial Institute by the A518 Stafford to Newport Road in Gnosall.

The hall, which was sited on land donated by the Church, was to be a living memorial and tribute to those from the Gnosall area who fell during the First World War. The building was a former Army hut from Brocton Camp which was bought for £190 by George Woodfield who had lost his son John during the First World War. The Memorial Institute was opened by Mrs Woodfield on Saturday 15 October 1921. Later there was a bowling green and tennis courts along with whist drives, bingo, dances and a weekly mobile cinema. Over the years the building fell into a state of disrepair and by 1954 maintenance exceeded income. Planning permission for a new hall was given in 1960 and a replacement was opened on Saturday 8 April 1961 by Mrs F. Shepherd Johnson. Currently (July 2023) it is known as Gnosall Memorial Village Hall.

This postcard was franked on 18 August 1922 in Gnosall and sent to an address in Shifnal.
