Description:This postcard title is Newtown, Gnosall; the picture looks north-west along Mill Lane towards Cross Street in Gnosall Heath.

In later years several of the cottages in this scene have been demolished, however, the cream coloured house centre left in the distance remains (August 2023) and the cottage in the centre has been altered.

The postcard was franked on 5 January 1920 in Sheffield. It was sent from May at the Golden Lion Hotel, Sheffield, to Doris who lived in Meersbrook, Sheffield. The message: “Dear Doris, Will you be able to come to tea tomorrow Tuesday afternoon. Best Love from May”. Around the time this postcard was sent in 1920 there were usually several daily postal collections and deliveries. Therefore, it was possible to send a message in the morning and it could be delivered later the same day.

Postcard published by M. Hall, Gnosall and printed in Treves, Germany.
