Description:Bishton Hall viewed from the Trent and Mersey Canal. Bishton Hall was purchased and then rebuilt by John Sparrow, a banker, in the 1770s. When he died his daughter, Charlotte, added the two bowed blocks on either side of the main entrance. The Grade II listed hall became the home of a Roman Catholic preparatory school, St. Bede's, founded by Cecil Stafford Northcote in 1946. The school closed in 2018 and the hall was purchased by Hansons' Auctioneers in 2019.
This early unused postcard has, unusually, a triangular area for correspondence on the picture side with the other side of the card being restricted for the address details of the recipient. This practice was superseded by split back cards which allowed the message and address on the non-photograph side from 1902.
