Description:Gladys Sarah Martin was born in 1908. She was the daughter of Wilmot and Edith (née Kennerly) Martin of Grange Farm, Hixon. Gladys married Edgar Williams at Hixon in 1934 and died in1941.

Wilmot Martin was a farmer at Grange Farm, Hixon and was famous for impersonating Sir Henry (Harry) Lauder, the famous Scottish singer and comedian, and was known as 'The Staffordshire Harry Lauder'. His impersonations were to gain him an M.B.E. for his charitable work over many years. Along with other members of the Martin family, Gladys performed in Wilmot Martin's concert party. On Saturday, December 30th 1922 Mr and Mrs Martin entertained ex-servicemen at a dinner and Harry Lauder Party at the Scouts Institute in Hixon so it is possible this postcard photograph was handed out then. Earlier in the month the Hixon Concert Party had performed at a War Memorial fundraising concert at Harlaston Pavilion when Gladys performed a Burlesque act.

Written in ink on the reverse of the postcard is: 'With best wishes from Gladys. January 1923'.
