Description:This postcard view shows guests and villagers outside All Saint’s Church, Forton, on the wedding day of the Hon. Gerald Spencer Clegg-Hill to Dorothy Boughey.

Gerald Spencer Clegg-Hill was the youngest son of Viscount Hill of Hawestone and Dorothy Boughey was the third daughter of Rev. Sir George and Lady Boughey of Forton. The wedding ceremony was conducted by the Bride’s father, the Rev. Sir George Boughey.

It was reported in local newspapers of the day that there was a wedding party of 180 guests, and that arches spanned the roads, flags decorated the houses, bells were ringing and there was a covering up to the church door from the outer gate.
